Did you know that properly preparing your home to sell can usually increase the price your home sells for?  Think about it, when have you walked into a place that felt worn or disheveled and immediately felt turned off? Now, think of the opposite, when you walk in somewhere that is bright, smells great, and is well organized. You can almost immediately feel the difference just imagining yourself in both of those places. The same goes for homes listed to sell and I have some quick and easy tips to help you prepare for putting your home on the market.

Deep Clean

When I say deep clean, I mean nothing left untouched! Here are some common places sellers forget about:

  • Window sills

  • Blinds

  • Ceiling fans

  • Inside all cabinets

  • Windows inside and out

  • Inside Light fixtures

  • Screens

  • Mirrors

Cleanliness can make a huge impact on how your home sells, buyers psychologically correlate it to how the home was taken care of. Investing in doing a deep clean of your house can make all the difference, whether you do it yourself or hire someone to do it for you.

Fresh Paint

Fresh paint can make a difference with potential buyers and the impression they have on your home. It is also an easy and low-cost way to make necessary improvements. I love magic erasers and usually always keep them with me, it’s a quick alternative to painting and it can make your paint look fresh.

Light Bulbs & Handles

Remember that one light that went out that you never replaced or the loose handle of your bonus room you barely use? This is another one easily overlooked by homeowners ready to sell. These little details can be easily forgotten as you live in your home, but will be noticed during a walk-through.

Organize & Declutter

This is an area I can’t stress enough. When a potential buyer walks into your home they begin to envision themselves living there. If the place is unorganized, has clutter, and has a lot of personal belongings, it will remind them that they aren’t in their own home and/or it will be hard for them to see themselves living there. Baskets and bins are key and can be a lifesaver!

STAGE STAGE STAGE

Staging a home is non-negotiable for any of my listings. I have someone that I truly enjoy and trust working with, because I’ve seen how much staging can elevate a space. This allows for the home to feel crisp with new furniture and well put together. Have you ever walked into a model home and thought, “Oh, this could be our office and this can be where we entertain,” a lot of that feeling you get or the ideas you have are because the home was properly staged for you to see what your lives would look like in the home. Staging is a game-changer.
